The integrated master of Medicine (MIM-UAlg) is a four-year degree, exclusively open to candidates having (as a minimum) a first cycle degree in one of the areas established by the regulation for application and selection. This base formation allows the credit of the two first years of the master, following a rigorous process properly regulated by the University of Algarve.
This innovative degree in Portugal is characterized by:
- A course structure based in clinical problems (cases) covering the fisrt years.
- A close contact with the clinical practice since the beginning of the course, being the first two years dedicated to Familial Medicine and the two last years to Hospital Medicine.
- The possibility for the students to create an adapted curriculum to their interest through the curricular unit Módulo de Escolha do Estudante (Student Choice Module) and the possibility of an internship during 10 weeks in the fourth year.
- A course designed having as a basis other universities worldwide. This common ideas, and the structure of the course was published in a scientific paper collaborative between four universities.

The theoretical knowledge acquisition in basic and clinical sciences is based in problem-base learning (PBL), through two weekly sessions of 3 hours each, in groups of 8 students and one tutor.
