The Department of Biomedical Sciences and Medicine of the University of Algarve receives medical students for short term clinical rotations (Electives), exclusively in the months of June, July, and August.
The Department of Biomedical Sciences and Medicine of the University of Algarve does NOT receive students for long-term exchange programs, semiannually or annually.
The Department of Biomedical Sciences and Medicine of the University of Algarve does NOT receive applications for postgraduate studies in clinical context. For those requests, applicants should directly contact our hospital - Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve, through administration @ chalgarve.min- saude.pt
Applications for short-term clinical rotations can be submitted for:
• Hospital context, at the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve, during the months of June, July and August of each year,
• Community context, within a Family Medicine setting, at one of the Family Health Units in the region (during August of each year).
Applications must be submitted through the International Relations Office of University of Algarve (email@example.com), until the end of January, for each year.
The answer to your application will be previously confirmed by the Mobility Coordination of the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Medicine, and in case of acceptance, it will be confirmed by sending a Letter of Acceptance.
After that, all accepted candidates you will be contacted by the International Relations Office to inform and request the necessary documentation as well as a confirmation of your access to accommodation in a university residence, if you are interested.
All accepted candidates must confirm their vaccination against tetanus, hepatitis B, and measles (the later one with two doses throughout their lives), which will be requested after your application, and without which it is not possible to enter health units.
During the clinical rotations, all accepted candidates must wear a white gown (personal) for use inside the health unit, as well as the student identification card of the University of Algarve (which will be provided to you at the arrival).
At the hospital, all accepted students will be received by the local Training Center, and during the clinical rotations all students will be guided by a tutor, working eight hours a day, and undergoing a qualitative assessment process, which should be send by email to the mobility coordinator.
