Overview

Obstetric emergencies contribute significantly to maternal and foetal morbidity and mortality. Successful management of this type of emergency involves a coordinated response from amultidisciplinary team composed of professionals with different clinical experiences and the use of a simulation-based model, which provides a safe learning and training environment without riskto patients.With this course, we aim to train professionals from various careers and stages of training in the management of obstetric emergencies, reinforcing technical and team communication skills,developing reasoning and decision-making in critical situations.We consider the following areas to be important: recognising warning signs and diagnosing priority emergencies, knowing the protocols for approaching and managing each critical scenario, understanding the pathophysiology and scientific basis of interventions, and applying international and national guidelines for obstetric emergencies. Our ultimate goal is to provide quality care to the population we serve, improving health outcomes for pregnant women, mothers and newborns.

Objectives

Development/improvement of technical and non-technical skills
Acquisition and updating of knowledge in obstetric emergencies
Improving the competence of gynaecology and obstetrics teams, integrating professionals from various levels and areas of specialisation
Training/progression on the learning curve
Promotion of interaction between different professionals in order to develop and optimise team skills- Improvement in the quality of services provided to the population.

Operating Mode

The course includes an online virtual class, followed by an in-person session (10 hours) at 22nd junho, from 9.00 am to 7.00 pm

The course will have a duration of 14 hours, awarding a total of 1 ECTS credit.

This course is part of the project Medicine, Technology, and the Future - MedTech NEXT | Digital More Impulse, under the Medicine Reform and Modernization Sub-measure.

The course provides up to 16 scholarships (subject to the availability of funding) for interns in the general year and in all medical specialties.

The scholarships awarded under the project Medicine, Technology and the Future – MedTech NEXT | More Digital Impulse, Sub-measure Reform and Modernisation of Medicine, comply with the Regulations for Incentive Scholarships under the UAlg+Skills4All and FOSTEAM@SOUTH Projects of the University of Algarve – Adult Impulse. According to paragraph b) of Article 3, the Adult Impulse Incentive Scholarship constitutes annual financial support to partially cover the costs of tuition fees for non-degree courses, aimed at the upskilling or professional reskilling of adults who have reached the age of 23 by 31 December of the year preceding the application.

Application Fee: 10 Euros

Registration Fee and School Insurance: 10 Euros

Note: The tuition of this course can be paid in 10 installments, being the first at the time of registration and the remaining in the months of October, November, December, January, February, March, April, May and June.

* in accordance with Decree-Law No. 36/2014, changed by Decree-Law No.62/2018, of 6th August, international students are nationals of a country which is not a Member State of the European Union and are not a legally resident in Portugal for more than 2 uninterrupted years by 1st of January of the enrolment year
