Overview
Clinical assessment in obstetrics comprises maternal and foetal assessment. As the foetal component is difficult to access, the use of ultrasound as a means of foetal assessment has be come essential. Despite the availability of ultrasound devices, the technical and practical skills of professionals are lacking, not only in the handling of these devices, but also in their application in foetal assessment in an obstetric context. All professionals in emergency settings who have contact with pregnant patients are required to ensure the assessment of both patients – the pregnant woman and the foetus – so that, when anultrasound device is available, they should be able to use it for this purpose. This is particularly relevant in the context of gynaecological and obstetric emergencies, where all medical staff should have this knowledge, especially colleagues with specific training who, having no prior training, must respond to this need at a very early stage.

Objectives

  • Train participants in the correct use of ultrasound imaging devices
  • Train participants in the application of ultrasound imaging techniques in the assessment of the foetal component
  • Learn about foetal development and anatomy
  • Learn how to produce a foetal anatomical assessment report
  • Promote the use of systematic ultrasound protocols
  • Foster interest in the field of ultrasound and obstetrics
